Clinical Teaching Fellows

Clinical teaching fellows will work under the direct supervision of the Teaching Team Lead who co-ordinates the day to day teams duties and teaching commitments. They will deliver teaching across specialities including Medicine, Surgery O&G and Paediatrics Work in conjunction with clinical educators, medical education admin and clinical leads to deliver Newcastle university MBBS curriculums to first, second, third, fourth and fifth year medical students Provide teaching using a variety of teaching methods with a focus upon clinical reasoning and simulation Facilitating and feeding back on clinical case presentations and clinical examinations Performing formative in-course clinical assessments with associated feedback Undertake simulation training to become part of the simulation faculty to support the delivery of high and low fidelity simulation sessions for undergraduate students, foundation doctors, Trainees and other allied health professionals Provide bedside teaching and clinical teaching with patients where required for specific rotations Acting as a tutor for third and final year medical students providing both academic support and an initial contact for pastoral care in collaboration with the pastoral lead/leads Supporting the planning and delivery of summative exams including the recruitment of patients, team marking and standard setting Undertake assessment training to support OSCE assessment for year 1, 2 and 3 medical students Providing Foundation Programme teaching on the mandatory teaching programme Supporting the clinical rotation leads with the planning and organisation of undergraduate rotations Working Trust wide to support the clinical rotation leads with the planning of rotations to ensure consistency and equity across the Trust. To cover teaching cross site as needed Acting as a role model for medical students and junior doctors within the Trust Helping with Trust-led work experience programmes Attending university events such as medical school selection interviews, clinical teaching forums and standard setting Completing small educational research project/ quality improvement projects Opportunities for an average of two clinical sessions per week in a specialty of choice in a supernumerary capacity during semester 2 only. There may be options to attend a block of clinical sessions in agreement with the LEP team manager Supporting the education and assessment of Physician Associates Fellows who voluntarily undertake out-of-hours emergency duties will be subject to the current New Deal provisions with respect to hours of work, rest periods and pay banding arrangements.
No Fellow should undertake out of hours duties which will impact on the designated education sessions during Monday to Friday per week. Fellows are encouraged to register with the Staff Bank if they wish to undertake additional work in other clinical areas of the Trust. Funding is provided for up to £2000 for the candidate to complete a certificate/diploma or masters in Medical Education.
