Expert Numerical Modeller

Wallingford, United Kingdom HR Wallingford Full time

Are you an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual looking for a new opportunity? We have a fantastic opening for the right person to join our team of flood and water management experts, solving some of the world’s most pressing water-related problems.

We are looking for a senior engineer or scientist with extensive experience in drainage modelling and has the associated analytical and coding skills that would enable them to work collaboratively across multiple technical disciplines.
- About the Role

You will work closely with team members to deliver projects and support clients across our Floods and Water Management Group. You will help develop and implement innovative solutions to sustainable development, climate adaptation, environmental protection and system resilience.

The role will involve working on both research and consultancy projects - providing technical expertise, project management and proposal development; and supporting the evolution of our commercial and internal research strategy.

Although our specific immediate need relates to drainage and climate impact modelling, there will be longer term opportunities to get involved in other areas including water resources, flood risk analysis and forecasting, climate adaptation and resilience, and the use of earth observation data. Our work cuts across regulatory, government and private sector consultancy and research sectors - both in the UK and internationally, and we are continuously generating new knowledge, skills and tools through our ongoing programme of internally-funded research.
- About You

You will have a strong interest and at least 7 years of experience in drainage and hydrology, with extensive experience of using numerical models (including ICM), GIS and coding (e.g. FME, Python, Ruby, ICMExchange) to solve complex, data-intensive problems. You can demonstrate commercial acumen and leadership experience on projects, the ability to drive change through innovative thinking and solutions, and you can inspire others through training and mentoring. You will have a minimum professional qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline. A Master’s degree or PhD would be preferable and Chartership through an appropriate institution would be advantageous.
- About Us

Our people are our most important asset. We are committed to recruiting and retaining staff of the highest calibre - people who have the desire and determination to succeed and be ambitious, not only for themselves but for their colleagues and clients too. We are relentless in our drive to create an exceptional working environment and we look for energy and positivity to ensure our staff remain inspired. We offer a stimulating working environment that seeks to surprise colleagues and clients with what we can achieve together. We share knowledge, ideas and experience to underpin our value of working collaboratively.

Our benefits package for full time employees includes:

- A defined contribution pension scheme with minimum 10 per cent contribution from the employer (up to 15 per cent with matched funding)
- Life insurance cover of three times salary.
- 22 days holiday, plus three days discretionary company holiday and eight bank holidays,
- Permanent health insurance.
- Onsite restaurant, gym and nursery.
- Active sports and social club.
- Cycle to work scheme.
- Employee Assistance Programme.

Our head office is based at Howbery Park near Wallingford, in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. Applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage or civil partnerships.
- Flexible Working

We are interested in relevant applicants looking for either part time, full time or fixed term employment. Helping our people achieve a healthy work-life balance is important to us, and we would be happy to explore flexible working and job share arrangements, including part-time and combined in-office and remote working. Please talk to us about the flexibility you need. We can’t promise to give you exactly what you want, but we do promise not to judge you for asking.
