**About the team**:
The EMEA Database Support Team (Oracle Tower) has 7 DBAs located in our UK and Poland offices and is part of the wider EMEA Database Support team of more than 20 DBAs. The team look after the Oracle database and Exadata estate for many merchant and financialsector Clients.

**What you will be doing**:

- You will be managing and maintaining the Oracle database environments and Exadata servers across test, UAT and production
- Actively manages backups along with other database administrators to ensure processes are successful and we can recover as a result
- Provides maintenance of physical databases following established standards and processes
- Enforce database standards and follows up on inconsistencies.
- Identify improvements and close gaps on our team knowledge base repository. Where applicable maintain and update our database standards/process documentation
- You will proactively identify and implement improvements to help maintain system availability
- As primary administrator, you will provide on-call support as needed (as part of a team rota) for out of hours issues with database environments and provide follow up and permanent resolution for reoccurring issues.
- Timely escalation of any customer outages via GIO Management
- Provides status reports (written and/or verbal) that are detailed to tasks and difficulties encountered - enables managers to initiate escalation if necessary and assess areas where changes or additional support may be warranted
- Understands and applies database concepts such as database definitions, parameters, database component placement, reorganization, access methods and security definitions.
- Participate in scheduled database disaster recovery testing
- Implements backup/recovery procedures to protect integrity of data in database environment
- You will provide QA validation for database designs and code written by developers
- You will be involved in troubleshooting and investigation into production system problems and root cause analysis
- A flexible approach is necessary for the role as determined by production issues
- You must be pro-active and show initiative
- Excellent communication skills are essential, to gather and impart information effectively within the department and to the wider business
- Perform routine reviews of databases and systems to ensure acceptable levels of performance.
- Participates as a member of development support team on projects.

**What you bring**:

- Oracle Database Administration (min. 12c)
- Exadata Machine administration - maintenance, monitoring, configuration, patching and upgrades
- Oracle SQL skills
- Database performance tuning
- Basic knowledge of UNIX operating systems and systems administration concepts (AIX/Linux)
- UNIX shell scripting
- Proven experience in the support of Oracle databases in financial services
- Proven experience in the Exadata administration - DMA skills
- Demonstrable track record in delivering work to schedule and specification
- Experience of database design in large database systems
- Good knowledge of database security and auditing, along with exposure to PCI-DSS
- Good problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
- Experience of highly available complex online systems.
- Design/develop and test small-medium technical changes with little or no supervision to ensure systems are reliable and fit for purpose
- Create technical documentation related to a specific area in order to assist record keeping and share knowledge with others
- Carry out investigations and analysis into relatively complex problems in order to provide solutions for the business
- Liaise and develop relationships with internal and external clients to understand their requirements and develop a consistent approach to provide excellent customer service at all times
- Develop, design and provide suggestions for improvement to technical platforms or working practices, producing several options for a problem/change and justifying recommendation for optimal solution in order to meet business requirements
- Deliver medium sized projects to time and budget
