**Job description**:
**Fiscal Group**
Fiscal Group works on a wide-ranging and exciting set of issues which are at the heart of the Treasury’s objectives. We are responsible for ensuring the sustainability of the government’s finances - over both the medium and long term - to support economic stability and growth. This means making sure that the government has enough revenue to meet its spending commitments. Work in this area includes advising the Chancellor on the appropriate levels of borrowing and debt, overseeing financing raised for the government by the Debt Management Office and National Savings & Investments, and managing the daily flow of cash across the public sector.

This includes short-term fiscal policy and monetary policy strategy, and the interaction between the two. The team also produces longer-term research and projects exploring a range of analytical and policy issues, related to macroeconomics. We work across the Fiscal and Economics groups, collaborating closely with teams across HM Treasury, using a combination of macroeconomic and fiscal analysis to ensure the government’s macroeconomic policy supports strong, sustainable growth to improve people’s lives.
We are committed to ensuring the team is a fun, engaging and inclusive place to work, where everyone is supported to develop and progress.
**The role**

This means it sits at the heart of the Treasury’s objectives to place the public finances on a sustainable footing, and ensure the stability of the macroeconomic environment. These objectives underpin the ability of the economy to grow sustainably, improving living standards for the people of the UK.
