**About the role**
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Amazon Cloud Database Administrator to join our growing team

**Base location can be flexible for this role.**

As an Amazon Cloud Database Administration you will be managing and maintaining the Redshift database, ensuring data security, high performance, and data integrity.

**What you'll be doing**
As an Amazon Cloud Database Administrator (Redshift) you will:

- Maintaining the Redshift database including backups, recovery procedures, monitoring database performance and capacity.
- Managing access controls and permissions alongside managing the database users, groups, and privileges.
- Monitoring the Redshift database health, usage, and performance.
- Analyse database performance metrics, identify performance bottlenecks, and implementing optimisations such as data compression, query tuning, and workload management.
- Managing database upgrades and patch management ensuring the database is always up to date with the latest security patches and bug fixes.
- Managing the database (any locks or long running SQLs)
- Troubleshooting access and permissions issues

**Who we're looking for** Essential**:

- 3 years + hands on experience as Redshift DBA in a medium complex data warehouse environment.
- Hands on Performance tuning experience including query optimisation, compression, and workload management.
- Knowledge of database monitoring and alerting tools, such as AWS CloudWatch, and experience in setting up monitoring and alerting systems to detect and respond to Redshift database issues.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), and experience in deploying and managing database systems in a cloud environment.
- Strong analytical skills to solve database performance issues.
- Strong skills in database administration, including security, access control, and user management.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate within the team.

**Desirable**:

- AWS technologies such as S3, Lambda, Redshift, etc
- AWS / Azure / GCP Cloud data services
- Python 3 skills
- Knowledge of data compliance and security issues around data driven solutions.
- Knowledge of disaster recovery procedures and experience in setting up and testing disaster recovery systems for Redshift.
- Knowledge of ADFS and/or AAD and using them to control access to Redshift.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI.
