Band 4 Tradesperson (Plumbing & Heating)
Band 4 - £22.549 to £24,882 plus overtime opportunities, 27 days holiday and voluntary pension scheme.
Due to a re-organisation of the Estates Division there is a vacancy for a plumbing and heating engineer.
The Estates Department provides a comprehensive maintenance repair and installation service of buildings, grounds, engineering services and associated equipment throughout the Trust.
JOB SUMMARY
To work within established maintenance policies and procedures with mínimal supervision. The successful applicant will be competent working on all types of Plumbing & Heating systems, including Ventilation systems.
The post requires concentration to diagnose faults and the adaptability to respond to interruptions and deal with unplanned maintenance issues.
The role is Monday
- Friday with opportunities for overtimes and weekend working. Start and finishing times 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.

Technical/Operational
- To take responsibility for basic diagnostic fault finding, problem solving and repair and maintenance of equipment. To undertake servicing and installation of equipment and systems within the Trust and in other properties maintained by the Maintenance Department as directed by the Estates Officer. (Ops)
- Including Water Systems, Natural Gas Appliances/equipment, HVAC, Steam raising Plant, Refrigeration, Medical Gas Systems, Mechanical Pressure Systems, Oil fired plant, Drainage, Decontamination etc.
- Effect temporary repairs/”make safe” works in emergency situations without supervision.
- To carry out new work or undertake new production appropriate to his/her original trade using relevant instruments and machinery without supervision. This may include the manufacture, assembly, erection and installation of new work using own initiative, experience and judgement.
- Maintenance of Trust equipment, recording results where appropriate. Reporting back an issue that cannot be resolved by individual.
- To analyse and diagnose plant problems using Building Management System
- Flexibility to participate in an emergency on-call system covering all properties maintained by the Trust as required by the Estates Officer (Ops)
Communications/Organisational
- Communicate technical issues to other maintenance staff and contractors; explain technical issues to junior members of the team and non-technical staff.
- Plan and organise own workload on a day-to-day basis, with access to Estates Officer as required.
- Train less experienced maintenance staff in using complex engineering plant and equipment and supervise maintenance assistants, checking and evaluating their work. Co-ordinate work of external contractors.
- To use Planet Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) asset system to record all hours and materials used for each work order.
Other
- Undertake driving duties on a range of vehicles covered by a standard driving licence as and when required by the Estates Officer, or Team Leader
- Undertake such other appropriate duties and/or responsibilities as may be directed by the Estates Officer or Team leader
- Be prepared to learn new techniques and undertake any training deemed necessary in order to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role.
- Carry out duties and/or undertake responsibilities relating to health and safety in accordance with the Trust and departmental safety policies and procedures.
- Have an understanding of the relationship of other crafts workers work relating to his/her own.
- Work constructively as part of the team, including the corporate and technical team.
