As part of Cygnet’s commitment to safeguarding Cygnet Hospital Bury have created a new and exciting opportunity for an experienced specialist practitioner with in-depth knowledge of safeguarding across the lifespan to take on the position of Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults and Children (including Looked after Children). As part of the senior management team the individual will report into the Operations Director and work alongside the Registered Managers.

This role will provide professional leadership and promote good safeguarding practice across Cygnet Hospital Bury. The Named Nurse will lead on Safeguarding for the Hospital and be the primary point of contact for Safeguarding, working alongside the Social Work team and those who hold Safeguarding Lead roles at site, including operational managers.

The role incorporates ‘Transition’, supporting colleagues to be cognisant of, and plan for the risks associated with transitional safeguarding. This site-based role is an opportunity to support colleagues working across a wide variety of service lines in mental health including our specialist Deaf services, secure and CAMHS.

Note: Must be NMC registered - ideally Mental Health or Learning Disability, but RGN would be considered if there is appropriate Mental Health experience.

You’ll be working Full time (40 hours per week) at Cygnet Hospital Bury. This is service provides a wide range of inpatient mental health services for men and women including specialist deaf services and CAMHS provision for adolescents.

Your day-to-day

Hold delegated responsibilities for Safeguarding on behalf of the Operations Director/Registered Managers.
Chair service level Safeguarding meetings and report into clinical/operational governance meetings.
Use data to identify which areas and colleagues may require additional support with safeguarding and provide this.
Provide training and education sessions to colleagues as identified.
To Quality assure safeguarding referrals and records including care-plans.
To undertake or support colleagues in undertaking any Internal Reviews, chronologies and Individual Management Reviews (IMRs) which may be requested as part of a multi-agency reviews such as Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (SPRs), Domestic Homicide Review (DHR) as requested by the Head of Safeguarding or Director of Nursing.

You

An experienced RMN/RNLD (or RGN with extensive MH experience.) with a current Pin Number, you’ll have

Substantial recent experience working at a senior management level in safeguarding or a post with similar responsibilities.
Able to evidence highly specialised and in-depth knowledge and experience of the full range of safeguarding work, including influencing policy and practice at a high level in a health service organisation.
Extensive experience of working with local authorities and multi-agency working.
Experience of undertaking investigations into incidents of a serious nature that relate to Safeguarding.
Extensive experience working within Mental Health /Vulnerable Groups/Adults at Risk.
Experience of drafting briefing papers and reports for committee level meetings.
