Our client base and the range of built assets is diverse:Administration Office Hub buildings, includingCounty HallLibraries and Registration ServiceCounty Record Office (Archives)Adult Services and Residential Care premisesChildren's Services and Residential Care premisesFire and Rescue ServiceWest Sussex Schools - Primary, Secondary, SpecialistHighways DepotsCoastand Countryside (Including Ancient Monuments and Listed Buildings)Valuation and Estate assets - including farms and land holdings.About the JobWe have an exciting opportunity within the Property and Assets directorate, currently seeking an Area Building Surveyor,this role offers both variety and challenge, and is responsible for organising and delivering capital and revenue schemes, utilising a variety of traditional design, specification and intelligent client project management commissioning methods.As an Area BuildingSurveyor, you will lead and co-ordinate multi-disciplinary approaches to the asset management of the built estate for both freehold and leased buildings. You will also contribute to the work of the Development team reviewing proposals and commenting on wholelife costs and maintainability.The job will require an ability to travel independently around the County, often to remote locations, and attendance at some meetings may be required out of normal office hours. In addition, there will be occasional exposureto unpleasant and hazardous environmental working conditions e.g. noisy plant rooms, access to roof spaces, confined working areas and on construction sites. All required personal protective equipment will be provided.Qualifications and/or experience: Extendedprevious formal training to graduate or chartered professional qualification level (e.g. degree in Surveying/Building, HNC / HND level Surveying/Building), or equivalent level of academic attainment, AND significant relevant experience and extensive experiencein the application of the knowledge to the specific requirements of the job and relevant areas of workRelevant membership of a relevant professional body e.g. Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB).Advancedtheoretical, practical and procedural knowledge for the range of professional building surveying and project management activities, plus a detailed knowledge of organisational policies, practices and procedures.Detailed, thorough advanced knowledge and experienceof building construction and building regulation requirements. Broad understanding of asset management maintenance design and construction procedures, techniques and statutory approval procedures.Considerable depth of knowledge of relevant statutory propertylegislation. This includes interpretation of very complex building control legislation and statutory guidance.Relevant advanced theoretical or organisational knowledge of systems, procedures and policies associated with operating a demanding and customer focussedproject management briefing and delivery service.Sound and accurate IT knowledge e.g. use of maintenance databases / software, AutoCAD LT and Microsoft Office, in order to carry out service-related processes.Rewards and BenefitsAs an employer we recognisethat it is our employees that are central to everything we do.
