Monitoring Project Officer
We’re looking for a Monitoring Project Officer to join us in the Midlands and East of England (MEE) region to help deliver our programme of care and conservation of archaeological sites across the region.
The National Trust looks after 19,388 archaeological sites across its properties in the Midlands and East of England (MEE) ranging in significance from Sutton Hoo and Wroxeter Roman City to a whole series of buildings, earthworks, monuments and landscapes that make up our unique historic environment. A successful scheme of regular condition monitoring of these archaeological assets has been developed, working with volunteers and on-site property staff, to carry out the work on the ground. This condition monitoring enables us to prioritise conservation work and to ensure the continued protection and preservation of the assets in our care.
What it's like to work here:You’ll be part of the Trust’s internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including curators, fundraisers, building surveyors and project managers, you’ll be working with others to help make things happen.
As this role covers the Midlands and East of England region, your contractual place of work will be the nearest National Trust consultancy office to your home. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40-60% of your working week.
What you'll be doing:You'll work closely with the regional archaeologists to recruit, train and support teams of volunteers carrying out the work and liaising with on-site property teams, to improve their skills and their understanding of how to care for the historic environment.
You'll be working with ARCGIS online and field-maps to roll out a digital model across the region. You'll manage, update and use the Historic Buildings Sites and Monuments Record (HBSMR) to produce maps and documentation suitable for volunteer use. You'll input, analyse and prioritise data resulting from the monitoring work.
You'll support with volunteer recruitment liaising with volunteers and property teams. Working with regional archaeologists you'll communicate the value of the work we do more widely within the Trust, running webinars, producing newsletters and updates.
