Loughborough, United Kingdom Volunteer It Yourself Full time

**VIY Assessors**

Job specification, March 2024

**About Volunteer It Yourself (VIY)**

VIY combines volunteering and DIY by challenging young people aged 14-24 to learn trade and building skills, on the job, by helping to refurbish and transform youth and community facilities in need of essential improvements (e.g. youth clubs, community centres, sports clubs, and arts, music and cultural venues).

The majority of young people who take part and benefit are disengaged or excluded from mainstream education and training, at risk of disengagement, and/or unemployed.

VIY participants are mentored by professional tradespeople and gain City & Guilds Entry Level 3 accreditations as well as access to further training, work placement and apprenticeship opportunities with local providers and employers beyond the project.

**Job purpose**

VIY directly manages and delivers the training provision, responsible for most aspects of the learner journey through our own resources and assets (e.g. multiple training/project sites, network of skills mentors). Accreditation of the learners had been coordinated via a third party City & Guilds approved provider of assessment and IQA services. However, VIY has been recently approved as a City & Guilds training centre itself. As such, we are now looking for driven assessor(s) to join the team at this exciting stage.

Looking for a passionate freelance assessor who will support our team and to build your own freelance portfolio. You will be required to support our mentors to help our learners to successfully achieve their City & Guilds accreditation(s). The assessor will be responsible for assessing the learners work and knowledge to ensure that the competence demonstrated meets City & Guilds’ requirements and standards. Our projects presently involve carpentry, P&D and plumbing with a future focus on retrofit and environmental accreditation.

**The role**

**Accountable to**: Skills Manager

**Location: Nottinghamshire**

**Duties**:

- Plan assessment with Lead Mentors and learners to ensure achievement and progression
- Complete an initial assessment on each learner
- Carry out assessment of learners in accordance with City & Guilds and VIY assessment guidelines
- Discuss with the Lead Mentor on the progress and safety of the young people, sharing any concerns you have with them at all times
- Review learners progress and achievements against Individual Learning Plans
- Record all assessment in accordance with City & Guilds and VIY guidelines
- Attend a minimum of two standardisation meetings each year
- For learners who have achieved certification ensure their portfolios are available at the next EQA’s visit
