Newquay Zoo first opened its doors as a council run seasonal attraction in the 1950s, relocating it to its current site and now permanent home in 1969. Over 50 years later, our site, and work, has grown considerably and we are now one of Cornwall’s most popular tourist attractions and a leading conservation and education centre. There are over 120 species of animal that call Newquay Zoo home.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Keeper to join our Mammal team on a permanent contract. This is a full time role working 38.75 hours over 5 days working hours will vary over a 7 day rota, including weekends and bank holidays. The salary for this position is £20,794.80 - £22,447.10 for a qualified keeper (experience related scale), or £12,311.65 - £19,525.35per annum for a trainee keeper (age related scale).
**What will this role involve?**
You will be responsible for the hands-on day-to-day husbandry of a large and diverse collection of primates, carnivores and ungulates, focusing on animal welfare, bio-security, record keeping and ensuring that exhibits are maintained to the highest standards.
**What skills and experience are required?**
You will have at least 2 years of prior experience working with Mammal species in a zoological collection or similar establishment, preferably working with a wide variety of mammals. You will have a broad knowledge of husbandry practices and how they are implemented and be reliable with good time-keeping and attendance. Ungulate and/or primate experience would be an advantage.
