**ROLE**:
You will work under the direct instruction/guidance of the class teacher and other allocated staff to undertake personalised learning support and care programmes to enable pupils with autism and complex communication difficulties to access learning. Work may be carried out in in the classroom and across the wider school. Support the development of social skills and wellbeing of pupils both in the classroom and through support and engagement during breaks and wider activities across the school.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:

- Support pupils in respect of their learning as directed by the class teacher, using agreed protocols appropriate to each curriculum pathway at Hedgewood
- Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding to individual needs and in particular autism.
- Supervise and support pupils at all times to ensure their safety and access to learning
- Encourage pupils to interact with others where appropriate and engage in activities led by the teacher.
- Support challenges in behavior through Hedgewood’s Low Arousal Approach and ABC, reporting and recording difficulties in line with these approaches.
- Attend to pupil’s personal and social needs including health, physical, hygiene and personal care, first aid (as directed) and welfare and wellbeing.
- Encourage pupils to increased independence as appropriate to their learning profile and pathway aims.
- Support pupils’ communication development and preferred method of communication (talking, signing, visuals) and support development of pupils understanding.
- Support pupils in using and developing awareness of e-learning, including monitoring e-safety.
- Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including lunchtimes and before and after school as required.
- Be aware of and support difference, ensuring all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn, promoting the inclusion of all pupils.
- Be aware of pupil progress and achievements and give timely feedback to class teacher.
- Undertake pupil record keeping as requested, including Seesaw as supervised by teacher.
- Report information from/to parents as directed.
- Prepare the classroom for learning, maintaining an uncluttered environment.
- Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assist pupils in their use.
- Assist with the display of pupil work in the classroom and across the school.
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Safeguarding and Child Protection, Health and Safety, Whistleblowing, confidentiality and GDPR, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
- Respect pupil, family and school confidentiality at all times.
- Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
- Provide clerical/administration support for class teacher e.g. photocopying, filing etc.
- Contribute to the overall ethos of the school, work and aims of the school.
- Appreciate and support the role of other designated specialists and professional across the school.
- Attend relevant meetings as required.
- Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**:
Ø Experience of working with relevant age group in a specialist environment, in particular autism (desirable but not essential).

Ø Good numeracy and literacy skills.

Ø Successful completion of Hedgewood Teaching Assistant Induction programme.

Ø Able to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities.

Ø Ability to use current classroom technology to support learning and communication.

Ø Ability to work on own initiative

Ø Ability to build patient and trusting relationships with pupils.

Ø Patient and reflective of pupil needs and own responses to challenges.

Ø Ability to reflect on own practice and feedback to improve and maintain performance.
