The Theoretical and Computational Physics Group is based in the Scientific Computing Department (SCD), which is part of UKRI. We are an international, family-friendly group that is active in diverse scientific projects, many of which are in collaboration withSTFC's large experimental Facilities such as the Diamond Light Source and the ISIS neutron and muon source.

We are currently looking for a Computational Software Scientist to join our group. The successful applicant will join a rapidly growing team whose aim is to transform how research is carried out at large experimental facilities through a multi-disciplinaryapproach to data processing, computer simulation and data analytics. By building the software and providing computational and data analytics expertise, the team plan to spark a paradigm shift in the capability of scientists to design, analyse and interpretexperiments.
**_About the role: _**
This role will sit at the forefront between software development / deployment, and scientific research at large scale facilities. The role will involve interacting with software engineers, data scientists, STFC scientists and end-users of our systems.

**_About you: _**
This is a highly collaborative role, and you will work closely with a variety of people and, as such, the ability to interact and communicate well with others is a must. You must have the ability to develop good working relationships and be eager to developskills in the interaction with experimental and computational scientists.

**_Essential Criteria: _**
Extensive experience of the Python programming language.
Knowledge of Git(Hub), Linux and Ansible.
Knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL; MySQL; SQLite and SQLAlchemy.
Experience in documenting software tools.
Experience with team-working and, ideally, co-development of scientific software.
Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.
