Birmingham City Council is looking for a new Strategic Lead in Quality Improvement and Safeguarding. This is an exciting and rare opportunity for a full time Grade 6 officer to work within the leadership team of the Early Years and Childcare Service, withinone of the biggest local authorities in Europe, which is working at pace to be a 21st Century Council.

The service leads on ensuring there is sufficient, good quality childcare for children aged 0-14 (16 with SEN) and access to early education places for all 3 and 4 year olds and targeted 2 year olds. This role leads on ensuring there is a range of supportfor early years and childcare settings in the city that includes information, advice, challenge and CPD opportunities to the workforce, and to strengthen the safeguarding practices. This ultimately means delivering services that will support achieving thebest possible outcomes for children and young people in Birmingham so that they are enabled to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Reporting to the Head of Early Years and Childcare, you will form part of the strategic leadership team. You will:

- provide operational leadership, vision and direction to the area of quality improvement and safeguarding for childcare settings for children aged 0 -14 (16 for children with SEND) and early education for 2, 3 and 4 year olds as defined within the ChildcareAct 2006, and 2016.
- be responsible and accountable for ensuring the service area achieves its strategic plans by promoting an appropriate culture, empowering others and demonstrating high practice standards.

This role offers the opportunity to deliver improved outcomes for children through the provision of high quality free early learning entitlements. It also comes with the responsibility for and management of a large team with associated budgets.

Applicants will be expected to meet the requirements of the attached person specification.

You will be a well experienced Early Years professional with management and leadership skills in childcare and/or early years education services.

You will have sound understanding of early education and childcare policy, practice and the relevant legislative frameworks such as Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, Local Authority statutory duties in respect of childcare sufficiency for childrenaged 0 -14 (16 for children with SEND) and early education for 2, 3 and 4 year olds as defined within the Childcare Act 2006 and 2016, and Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021.
