PURPOSE OF THE POST The Health Care Assistant will work under the indirect supervision of the treatment room and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Basic Procedures Dressing and wound management. Scalds and burns management. Minor injuries e.g.

sprains, bruising, cuts, grazes etc. Leg ulcer care and management. Suture and clip removal. Venepuncture Testing pathology samples e.g.

blood, urine. Ear syringing, blood pressure and weight management. Aid/chaperone to GP during clinical procedures, e.g. minor operations etc.

Specimen collection e.g. mssu, pregnancy tests, occult blood, faeces for O&S, sputum, etc. Be responsible to putting labels on samples, form filling and ensuring timely preparation of specimens for collection to laboratory. General observations e.g.

BP, pulse and temperature. ECG Use and care of nebulisers. Ensure the maintenance of stock levels in the Treatment Room relating to patient care. Be responsible for aspects of clinical waste and confidential waste management and cleaning of specific clinical areas, spills etc Any other duties as specified by the Treatment Room lead as deemed appropriate and supported by appropriate training documentation Vaccinations & Injections 1.

Flu vaccination clinics/any other vaccination clinics as deemed appropriate and supported by appropriate training documentation 2. Any other routine injection as deemed appropriate and supported by appropriate training documentation Raising Health Awareness 1. Raising awareness of health and well-being by participating in patient health promotion and screening initiatives 2. Participation in QOF and Enhanced Services Protocols as deemed appropriate and supported by appropriate training documentation Administrative & Professional 1.

To comply with the guidelines for the storage, control and administration of medicines and controlled drugs as detailed in the UKCC Administration Of Drugs. 2. Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice Team ensuring that the relevant claim forms are submitted in a timely manner to facilitate claims for payment (childhood Immunisations etc). 3.

Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded on the clinical record on the computer (or on paper records as necessary). 4. Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care, and registration with the Practice, including relevant clinic lists and call/recall systems. 5.

Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports or for identifying target group patients. 6. Attend and participate in Practice Meetings as required 7. Assist in the formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy and policy.

8. To be responsible for the safe use and security of all Practice equipment used in the treatment/consulting rooms and reporting any defects to the Practice Manager/Lead GP. Professional Development It is your responsibility to keep up to date and informed about new developments and equipment and maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed beneficial to Practice development or necessary for professional development. It is a requirement of all employees to attend relevant courses/training programmes as determined and agreed by the Partners of the Practice to ensure their development in terms of the requirements of the post at a specified time and the demands of the Practice.

All staff have been issued with an Employee Safety Handbook which should be referred to at all times.
