We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 to join our team as a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse on Tavistock Medical Ward. This post would be an ideal opportunity for a band 5 with a minimum of 2 years’ experience looking for a more senior role or an existing Band 6 who would relish a change in environment and a new challenge. An enthusiasm for the speciality is essential and a teaching/assessing qualification and evidence of post basic study are desirable.
**Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.**
There is an expectation for this role to deliver the following:
- Exemplary leadership: visible, clear and compassionate leadership providing an authoritative presence.
- Leading the nursing team to focus on patient outcomes ensuring that our patients receive safe, harm-free and effective care at all times and supporting change to achieve this.
- Oversee the overall patient experience in the clinical areas, ensuring all patients are treated with dignity and respect, valuing the diversity of our local community.
- Strong visibility across the ward, leading through example and being accessible to junior staff, patients and the multidisciplinary teams.
- Empowering and supporting the junior nursing team on the ward to achieve excellence in assuring good and evidence-based care and their key performance indicators.
- Supporting the Ward Manager and acting up in her absence.
- Overseeing and assuring excellence in cleanliness and infection prevention and control practices.
- Daily monitoring, leadership and promotion of operational performance indicators on the ward, i.e.: good discharge planning, good multidisciplinary meeting practice, etc.
- Working with inpatient and community multidisciplinary teams in a leadership role to ensure patient-focussed goals and outcomes.
Tavistock Medical Ward is a 15 bedded Rehabilitation Ward caring mainly for Frail Elderly and End of Life patients within the local community. As a nurse led unit, the team pride themselves in providing a high standard of care for this client group within a caring environment. We have a patient-centred approach and provide holistic, individualised care.

To act as deputy to the nominated ward manager on all aspects of management.
To assist in leading Multidisciplinary Team Working on the Ward
To participate in audits and monitor clinical effectiveness.
To ensure staff maintain relevant training and competencies.
