At St Peter & St James Hospice, we are passionate about providing compassionate end-of-life care, and we’re looking for a Finance Assistant who shares that commitment. You’ll play an essential role in maintaining the financial health of our hospice, working in a supportive environment where your contributions truly matter.
**Key Responsibilities for a Finance Assistant**:
- **Processing invoices**: Accurately input supplier invoices, raise purchase orders, and manage payment runs.
- **Bank reconciliation**: Ensure all bank accounts are reconciled on a regular basis, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- **Payroll support**: Assist with payroll processing, including maintaining accurate employee records and preparing salary payments.
- **Credit control**: Monitor outstanding payments, send reminders, and work with departments to ensure debts are settled in a timely manner.
- **Expense management**: Process employee expense claims, ensuring adherence to policies and that all claims are supported by valid receipts.
- **Data entry and financial reporting**: Support the finance team with maintaining accurate financial records and assist in preparing reports for management.
- **General support**: Provide administrative support to the Finance Manager and wider finance team as required, including assisting with audits and other financial reviews.
**Skills and Experience Required**:
- Experience in a similar finance role, experience within a charitable or healthcare environment would be beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with accuracy.
- Knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, or similar).
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to work as part of a team.
- A basic understanding of payroll and VAT would be beneficial.
- A passion for the work we do and a desire to contribute to a worthwhile cause.
