**Teacher of Drama**

**About the Department**:
The Music and Drama department work closely together and consists of five full-time specialist staff and seven part time peripatetic music staff. There are also trainee teachers within the department. Standards in the department are high with students achievingwell academically and taking full advantage of the extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities provided. Drama and Music are a valued feature of school life, with many productions, performances and concerts taking place throughout the year.
- In Key Stage 3 students are timetabled for an hour per week for Drama and are usually taught in classes of about 16.
- Topics such as devising and theatrical form, style and genre are studied, along with exploration of set texts such as Lord of the Flies.
- The department offers examination courses in Drama at GCSE and A level, following the Edexcel specifications.
- Recent examination results in Drama are incredibly pleasing.
- Over the last four years of the new GCSE specification between 90 and 100% of Drama students achieved the higher grades 7-9. A level drama results have all been at grades A or B in recent years.

**Facilities for Drama include**:

- A recently built large Drama Studio as well as a smaller classroom sized room dedicated for drama.
- A stage, PA system, acoustic piano, full curtaining and storage for a range of props.
- The studio has also been fitted with a professional digital lighting display.
- School productions and performances also take place in the main school hall, which has a large stage that is also equipped with lighting and sound.

The Drama and Music department often work together at performances with showcases, concerts and productions. The musicals that are produced by the school are of a very high standard. Some of the recent productions from the department include We Will RockYou, Little Shop of Horrors and Return to the Forbidden Planet. Rehearsals are now underway for a production of Grease later this year. The annual House Drama and House Music competitions involve large numbers of students too.

Consideration will be given to both experienced teachers and EQTs who wish to develop their teaching expertise in an outstanding school. For the Drama and Music department, commitment, a positive attitude, ideas, potential and enthusiasm are important qualities.
