**About us**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Families and Wellbeing Directorate to join the Virtual School for Children in Care as the Virtual School Inclusion Officer. You will work with a wide range of professionals; Virtual School colleagues, social workers, EHCP coordinators, admissions colleagues. You will also work directly with children and parents/carers.

**The role**:
The role is term time only (38 weeks), 37 hours per week.

Key duties to be undertaken within this role include:

- Leading the co-ordination and completion of Personal Education Plans (PEPs) for a small, select group of Children in Care who are at risk of repeated suspension, being placed on part time timetables or have low attendance generally;
- Supporting schools in the use of our Education Psychology Service’s Emotionally Based School Attendance (EBSA) toolkit so that attendance improves;
- Working strategically and operationally to monitor and improve school attendance and reduce suspensions of our children;
- Advising schools and social workers on how they can support Children in Need and those on Child Protection;
- Working directly with some children and their parents/carers to support them into better school attendance.

**What's needed?**:
You will support the Virtual School Head Teacher and the Virtual School team to ensure that Personal Education Planning meetings are arranged to meet statutory requirements and that all relevant supporting material is co-ordinated to support the process, including the sharing of completed PEPs to tight timescales. Planning and leading PEP meetings, taking notes, co-ordinating and quality assuring documents and working with schools to ensure progress are key aspects of the post. You will work within a team of other Virtual School Education Officers where consistency of standards and a team approach is imperative.

You will be the Virtual School’s single point of contact for the schools on your caseload helping them to understand trauma, attachment and its impact on children’s development and often their mental health. You will use your knowledge to advise schools how they can better support children who are vulnerable and are in need of additional support.

You must have exceptional administrative skills, a proven track record of providing good customer service and be able to communicate effectively, while also being able to work sensitively and appropriately with a wide range of people and stakeholders. Your ability to manage your own diary and caseload is essential. You will be liaising with Head Teachers, senior leaders, social workers and other professionals and experience of working within a school or any relevant teaching experience would be beneficial to this role, especially in the areas of attendance or suspensions. Alternatively experience in children’s social care and/or working with children would also be desirable.
