This is a senior appointment with long-term career potential, working in a sector which is responding to and addressing the risks associated with climate change - identified as the most significant risk to global economic development.
The aim of this role is to contribute to building the climate resilience market and services in the Environmental Division of Mott MacDonald, supported by our Global Climate Change Practice.
- Manage and direct climate resilience projects.
- Deliver technical services to clients, including interpreting climate change projections and working with climate data, undertaking climate change risk assessments, and developing adaptation strategies and plans.
- Present findings in written reports, spreadsheets and presentations.
- Establish and maintain excellent relations with clients including infrastructure operators, international financial institutions, and internal clients.
- Take a role in building our portfolio of climate change projects and programmes in line with longer term market expectations, through developing and sharing understanding of market opportunities, proactively pursue opportunities and prepare successful proposals to grow our existing pipeline of work.
- Assist the Climate Resilience Associate with business development in the EUNA (Europe and North Africa) region, taking a proactive role in technical leadership on climate resilience.
- Support sharing of knowledge and experience, both within the team as well as the wider Group.
- Participate in the wider global community of climate consultants within Mott MacDonald, collaborating with colleagues across all Regions.
- Be a mentor and coach for junior colleagues to build their understanding and capabilities.
- Together with others in the team, provide thought leadership in the market, prepare materials for and attend industry events, and engage with our clients to share our collective experience.
Essential
- A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Environmental Management, Sustainability Studies or a related field.
- Sound commercial understanding and desire to operate within a dynamic commercial environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of climate science and modelling. Direct experience of working with climate projection data, e.g. UKCP18, IPCC projections.
- Ability to interpret and communicate climate data tailored to client needs.
- Significant experience in the design, implementation and management of projects in the field of climate resilience.
- Clear, concise writing style and experience in proposal writing for a range of audiences.
- Demonstrated business development experience with a track record of growing a business and securing and successfully completing climate resilience projects.
Desirable
- GIS, coding and/or digital tool development experience would be an advantage.
- Deep technical knowledge of climate resilience across a range of sectors, including development of climate change strategies and adaptation policies and climate change risk assessments.
- Excellent supervisory and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in an international, multicultural and diverse environment, with collaborative approach and working across sectoral and regional boundaries.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, this role would have required willingness and ability to travel for business, and we expect this to re-start in the near future however there will be an assessment of travel need per project or event as relevant.
