The National Archives collects and secures the Government record both current and future, preserving it for the Nation and making it accessible. Our collection spans almost 1000 years and is one of the largest in the world, containing over 11 million historical records from medieval parchment to modern papers, digital files, datasets, websites, tweets and computer code. The National Archives is the archive of government and archives sector lead for local authorities and places of deposit.

The Strategic Compliance team sits within the Public Access and Government Services Directorate providing advice, guidance and services to our government colleagues to fulfil their obligations under the Public Records Act and ensuring transferred Public Records are made accessible.

The Role:
This is a pivotal role in a growing, dynamic team, the work of this role directly supports the collecting and securing of the government record, preserving it for generations to come, making it as publicly accessible and available as possible.

This role sits within the Strategic Compliance Team; developing accessible, accurate and relevant guidance to people working within Information Management in government departments. The purpose of the guidance being produced is to enable bodies that create public records to fulfil the statutory obligations under the Public Records Act 1958.

This is a varied role with substantial opportunities for professional development; there is access to the Civil Service training programme as well as development opportunities supported in-house. A strong team-working culture is supported by robust hybrid working technology.
