Cordant People are recruiting for Campus Cleaners for a well established University in Manchester.
Overall Purpose of the Job:
Carry out a range of campus cleansing duties throughout the University. To assist the Environmental Services Unit to implement standards, and make efficient use of all resources working within a general framework of “best value”
Key Responsibilities, Accountability's or Duties:
1. To assist the supervisory team to effectively deliver a quality cost effective environmental maintenance service.
2. To carry out a range of campus cleansing duties including but not limited to:
a) General waste management
b) Special waste management
c) Vehicle maintenance
d) Power washing
e) Sign cleaning
f) Road and path sweeping
g) To assist with the delivering and collecting materials and equipment
3. To assist day-on-day the supervisory team in ensuring all work is carried out in an efficient, cost effective, transparent and safe manner to the highest achievable standard.
4. Responsible for ensuring that all associated paperwork issued in conjunction with the job/project is completed and returned to the appropriate supervisor for processing.
5. Provide specific advice within the area of technical expertise on a routine basis
6. Participate in the implementation of performance-monitoring systems so as to provide evidence that the team is providing value for money.
7. Contribute to the development of a customer focused service, promoting the Directorate of Estates by establishing and maintaining working relationships throughout the University.
8. Contribute in the development and implementation of efficient, cost-effective working practices and quality service standards to ensure the provision of an effective maintenance service to the highest achievable standard, demonstrating value for money.
9. Ensure all activities undertaken by you and or people working in conjunction with you are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the University, RSD and Directorate of Estates Health & Safety policies and procedures, and particularly the Health& Safety at Work Regulations and all subordinate legislation.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
1. A craft certificate in a waste and environmental related discipline together with at relevant experience OR extensive vocational experience in a related discipline
2. An established track record and experience in a campus cleansing discipline
3. Experience of preparing reports for work completed, including recommendations where appropriate for additional actions
4. Experience of working:
a. To tight deadlines
b. In confined spaces
c. On building sites
d. In hazardous areas
5. Must have working knowledge of:

- a. Health & Safety legislation
b. Working knowledge of waste management legislation
6. Must be capable of accessing all parts of the University’s estate including working in confined spaces etc.
Working Environment:
1. Directly responsible to the Environmental Services campus cleansing
supervisory team from whom professional, technical and policy guidance is received as necessary but with the minimum of supervision
2. The post of Campus Cleansing (Operative) is interchangeable with all other Landscape (Operatives), and when directed to carry out duties for Landscape (Manual Operative)
3. The post holder will be required to undertake regular training to enhance skill and be required to embrace new technology and equipment in the execution of duties these will include but not be limited to.
a) Specialist access equipment
b) Safety equipment
c) Manual handling equipment
d) Plant and machinery
e) Specialist lifting equipment
4. The post holder will be centrally based and will be required to visit all parts of the University, both internal and external areas.
Monday - Friday 7am-2:30pm
20 min paid break and a 30 minute unpaid lunch
35 hours paid per week
£9.67 per hour
This increases after 6 months service to £10.10 per hour
