Can you lead a team of environmental planners to help shape places for people and wildlife that are resilient to climate change? An opportunity has arisen to lead the Sustainable Places (SP) Team (Herts and North London Area). Working alongside our London SP Team you will influence growth and development, focusing largely on the Hertfordshire area. This is a place of intense development, so we need someone who can prioritise effectively. You should be a confident negotiator and enjoy influencing others.

Our SP service has been taking a more commercial approach to some of its activities. You will be responsible for leading the team as the service continues to evolve, maintaining good performance and excellent customer service. You will be required to work closely with other teams influencing growth and development issues.

You will have a key role to play in developing individuals and the team. New skills will be required as the SP service evolves to ensure we can continue to effectively meet current and future challenges.

You will also be a key member of the Area’s Leadership Group - working closely with other Team Leaders and the Senior Leadership Team to support, develop and motivate staff.

The team
The team provide comprehensive and persuasive technical advice for planning proposals and strategies through the Town and Country Planning System to deliver environmental enhancements and protection. They work with a range of customers including local authorities, water companies and developers to influence strategic place based planning. You will also be required to work closely with many of our technical teams in bringing together our planning responses.

Experience/skills required
We are seeking someone with excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. This will be complimented by your enthusiasm to achieve results and an ability to lead and coach others to do the same. You will ideally have experience in leading teams and promoting a strong diversity, health, safety and wellbeing culture. You will be comfortable and effective working as part of the wider leadership team.
You will have excellent customer skills and experience in influencing and engaging with internal and external customers and stakeholders including those at a senior level. You will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to work and will be able to make decisions using available information and evidence.
