Looking for an exciting opportunity to join the Safety Team at Ministry of Defence Main Building in London?

This exciting safety profession role as the Department of State (DoS), Health and Safety (H&S) Deputy Adviser sits at the heart of Defence as a part of the Safety, Security, Business Resilience, Technology, and Accommodation (SSBRTA) team.

This role requires you to be part of the DoS H&S team to champion and drive safety performance while providing support and expert advice to those working within the unique workplace of MOD Main Building in London. In addition, you will support a small number of other UK MOD establishments which form part of Defence’s DoS organisation.

Suitable applicants will possess good communication and interpersonal skills and will be able to work both as part of the wider SSBRTA and independently, overseeing H&S across the Main Building, including: investigating accidents and incidents; recording, interpreting and onward reporting of occurrences, workplace inspection; delivering and organising a health and safety and emergency training programme, including first aid training; and periodical reviews of other health and safety regimes and related documents.

You will be expected to have an interest in gaining knowledge and experience of wider Safety Health and Environmental Management disciplines. Working to the H&S Adviser within DoS including Main Building, you will be a critical part of the small and dedicated MOD Main Building Health and Safety team (H&S Lead, H&S Adviser and H&S Deputy Adviser). Your primary focus will be to help ensure DoS and MOD Main Building complies with its Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities. This will be delivered by the H&S team by reinvigorating and shaping the DoS high-level overarching Safety, Health, Environmental Management Systems in support of and enabling the DoS primary outputs as a MoD and Military Strategy Headquarters.

You will be supported and mentored by the H&S team and wider DoS H&S profession network.

You will be working with a diverse range of stakeholders from MOD civilians, Armed Forces personnel and contractors.

Occasionally the role may require an element of out of hours working in support of major state events in Whitehall.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
