This is an extremely exciting and new opportunity to join the Environmental Team as an Environmental Apprentice. Over the course of 2 years, you will get to experience what goes into supporting this team and how you can help our business reduce the carbon footprint.

Our purpose is to support, coordinate and deliver environmental and sustainability activities across the UK to agreed standards, including relevant legislation and policy.

This opportunity comes at an exciting time for the Environmental Team - we are growing our talented team and this apprenticeship will play a vital, supporting role within this.

This is based from the offices in Corby, Northamptonshire but travel to other sites will be required.

You will start by completing the Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Practitioner Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard found here:

This is a Foundation degree level and will set you up for a career in Environmental & Sustainability

**Main Duties**:
Your main duties will be split across 3 responsibilities. These are listed below, and you will receive full training on all of this.

Compliance
- Responsible for supporting the maintenance of the ISO 14001 management system & our compliance to this
- Participate in environmental inspections on company premises and make recommendations & action plans
- Support Distribution Centre environmental management system, compliance, optimisation and reporting
- Deliver environmental training to staff and other groups, such as Tool Box Talks, Environmental inductions, Spill training, Environmental awareness and Net Zero
- Support the process to ensure waste returns are collected at the end of each quarter for legal compliance
- Prepare Information for Battery and Florescent light annual returns

Data
- Contribute to the development, implementation and continuous improve an environmental strategy that supports our objectives
- Coordinating with other parts of the business to ensure that the annual submissions required under the packaging regulations is accurate and completed in the required timescale.
- Supporting the return in the prescribed format and take responsibility for ensuring accuracy of the methodology used to derive the data
- Support UK sites with monthly data returns for all environmental metrics
- Engage with sites to identify top users and develop action plans using hierarchy of control to reduce / eliminate waste
- Support the Environmental Management Dashboard (EMD) process by preparing data for monthly meetings

Environmental, Social & Governance
- Internal communication regarding net zero
- Support monthly EMD meetings, liaise with key stakeholders to progress localised projects
- Promote continuous improvement regarding net zero projects across RS Locals (branch network)
- Working with ESG communications to customise local incentives into communications for the business

We are offering a £18k salary, 37.5 hours per week, 22 days paid holiday and access to Private Medical & Pension benefits. On top of this you will receive the apprenticeship training at no cost to yourself and gain vital experience on the first step of your career with us.

**Are you who we’re looking for?**

We’re looking for someone who is willing to learn, who can spot problems & solutions, is self-motivated and has a real passion for Environmental issues.

Do you match the below criteria? If so, you need to apply.
- Grades A*- C or grade 4-9 (or equivalent in GCSE English & Maths)
- Lived in the UK or EEA for the last 3 years
- The right to live and work in the UK
- Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal
- Good eye for detail
- Requires a flexible approach to working hours, including the possibility of working night shifts and unusual work patterns: some nights away may be required with prior notice given
- Have some knowledge of business sustainability and energy management issues such as Net Zero, climate change and emissions
- Work well with numbers and data
- Have access to a vehicle and willing to travel
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Team working skills

Desirable but not essential
- Project management experience
- Work experience within environment fields
