The Acute Medicine service sees up to 140 patients per day, across a variety of settings; our Acute Medicine Receiving Unit, Assessment Ward B3, Level 1 and SDEC. We also provide an in-reach service to all Acute Medicine patients referred to us by the Emergency Department. The variety and pace of the work we cover offers unrivalled clinical experience, and you will see cases ranging from minor Ambulatory conditions to critically unstable patients with a range of presentations.
The Acute Medicine service is rapidly developing and expanding bringing opportunities for new areas of clinical work, research, education and leadership. If you are keen to develop your career further in these areas then we can offer bespoke and supported opportunities to do so. We offer a five year development programme for qualified ACPs supported by the consultant lead for ACP and senior ACPs. You will be expected to manage a case load of patients and be responsible for their ongoing medical treatment and care. This will require referral and liaison with multiple specialities within the organisation and close work within the MDT. As a result you will require excellent organisational and communication skills.
Alongside clinical practice within the specialty, the successful applicant will have weekly rostered time to undertake their own continued professional development alongside service development work. They will be given the opportunity to follow personal interests and pursuits whether that is in education, teaching, research or management.
Encompassing all pillars of ACP, you will be expected to undertake an active role in service development, education, audit and research within the department, encourage and support others and demonstrate excellent leadership skills.
