As an Authoring Engineer you will ensure that the diagnostic tools offer world class effectiveness, through the responsibilities and requirements outlined below.

**Responsibilities**
- Maintain the vehicle diagnostic trouble codes and DID/PID databases which are used to support the company's diagnostic tools.
- Author guided diagnostics for dealer technicians
- Author instructional routines and user guides for use of diagnostic tools
- Test releases of diagnostic software against specification and report any deviations, bugs or shortfalls.
- Work with the R&D systems engineers and their suppliers to provide DTC diagnostic descriptions for inclusion into the help text systems.
- Monitor effectiveness and useability of the diagnostic tools. Feedback comments, suggestions, and improvements for inclusion to future software releases.
- Be prepared to visit dealers to support service operations if necessary

**Requirements**:

- Previous experience with vehicle diagnostics including module reprogramming, retrieval of diagnostic trouble codes etc is required.
- The ability to work with a signals database and develop understanding of the methods used to extract meaningful engineering data from ECU message replies.
- Must have good clear interpersonal skills and be willing to interface with engineers and other personnel from various other company departments.
- Knowledge of the information required to perform diagnostics, and the steps in a typical diagnostic process
- A familiarity with industry standard diagnostic documentation (ODX, cdd etc)
- Understanding of dealer processes
- Experience in a diagnostics role, such as master technician or electrical technician.
- Previous experience of vehicle communication protocols would be an advantage, CAN, ISO9141, Ford SCP etc, but is not mandatory.
- BEng degree or equivalent practical experience
