An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of Gateshead Council’s Physical Activity Team, in a new role delivering a Sport England programme, funded by the National Lottery and delivered by the Football Foundation.

You will be responsible for the effective session planning, development and delivery of the project. The project is aimed at increasing physical activity levels within the target audience and create sustained behaviour change through football in a Place-based approach.

Gateshead Council are the lead organisation, on behalf of a consortium of partners working together to deliver a targeted plan that aims to tackle inequalities, by activating key settings through the delivery of recreational football activity. As the Active Through Football Activator, you will deliver ongoing community engagement and capacity building to support the Project officer to develop the delivery plan and ensure the local community have ownership of this.

You will work with the Active Through Football Partners and external organisations to deliver a shared purpose.

You will have a good understanding of the challenges and barriers faced of the target audiences (Women aged 16 plus, men aged 50 plus, refugee’s and people with mental health issues) that the project is looking to engage.

You will have worked with or have lived experience of targeted groups in a community-based setting, experience of partnership working, community development and knowledge of networks linked to local communities. You will be passionate for making a positive difference in communities who may be the least heard.

You will have experience of planning and developing engaging activity sessions to a varied audience and hold a UEFA C license (formerly FA level 2 in coaching football)

You will have good communication skills with excellent organisation, project and time management skills and have a minimum educational standard of 4 GCSE (or equivalent) at grade A-C or Grade 4-9.

The role will require you to undertake some evening and weekend work to support project delivery.

Job type - Full Time 37 hours per week

Contract type - fixed term until September 2026
