**Summary**:
The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) responsible for the procurement and support of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent. As the organisation responsible for this substantial and wide ranging programme of work, we are accountable to the MOD for the procurement of the new Dreadnought and Astute Class submarines and to the Royal Navy for in-service support provision.

Formed in April 2018, we are on our way to becoming a high-performing organisation, bringing together existing expertise with heightened managerial, commercial and procurement capability to ensure excellence and cost-efficient delivery of the UK’s nuclear submarine assets for decades to come.

We work closely with the Defence Nuclear Organisation in MOD Head Office, the principal customer for nuclear submarine capability and the Sponsor of the SDA, and with Navy Command as the end User. We are overseen by a Board led by a Non-Executive Chair. We operate closely with our Tier One suppliers, BAE Systems Submarines, Rolls-Royce Submarines and Babcock, including through the Dreadnought Alliance, a commercial alliance between the MoD, BAE Systems Submarines and Rolls-Royce to deliver the UK’s next generation ballistic missile submarine.

**Job description**:
The SDA delivers the most technically complex programmes in Defence. From the design, build and arming of new nuclear-powered submarines to maintaining the availability of the Royal Navy’s operational fleet, as well as decommissioning boats no longer in service, the engineering and safety challenges are amongst some of the greatest - and most rewarding - we face.

Reporting to the SDA’s Technical Director, the Head In-Service acts as the senior financial advisor for all finance across the Technical Director and Director Submarine Support (DSMS) Delivery Director areas. They are responsible for delivering on the Finance & Accounting mission of Protecting Value, Adding Value and Driving Value. And they are a vital member of the Technical Director and DSMS Management teams, as their professional financial and accounting advisor.

They will operate in direct support to the Chief Strategic Systems Executive (CSSE) who is the nominated UK Project Officer under the Polaris Sales Agreement (PSA) with US Government. They will act as the Trident Finance Officer, responsible for maintaining the effectiveness of Joint UK/US PSA financial processes.

The Head In Service Finance is responsible for developing, operating and maintaining appropriate Financial Management and control processes and procedures to support the efficient reporting, costing and management of the resources allocated to deliver outputs on behalf of all the SDA In Service teams.

The Head In-Service Finance is a member of the SDA’s Senior Leadership Group and has responsibility to inspire people to achieve the SDA vision, mission and objectives.

This includes
- A commitment to improve the diversity of the workforce, provide leadership and decision making, and maintain and improve professional standards across In-Service Finance.
- Implementing transformation to improve efficiency, effectiveness across SDA including improved financial reporting linked to milestones and restructuring of teams
- Ensuring financial professionalism across SDA and wider finance transformation of the business in line with Defence Equipment and Support and MOD Director General Finance Strategies.

A further key area of focus is working closely with key industry suppliers and international colleagues to ensure the efficient and accurate collation and reporting of financial information across organisational boundaries to both protect value though accurate and timely reporting, also driving future values through key strategic investment decisions.

Overall, the role requires relevant and extensive leadership and technical experience with strong emphasis on working with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary environment, to drive excellence in financial management through genuine collaboration.
