Do you have a good knowledge of agriculture regulations in England and want to improve our natural environment? Are you able to come up with new ideas or ‘think outside the box’?
- We are looking for enthusiastic Agriculture Officers to Test Approaches to Regulation of Agriculture (TARA). We want someone who can not only come up with new ideas to improve practices but get them successfully implemented on farm. You will be part of a national project who will give direction and steer, but based in one of the East of England Land & Water Teams.
- You will undertake agricultural regulatory inspections both using established Environment Agency methods and guidance and trialling new methods of regulating. These could include utilising remote sensing data, working with other organisations, trialling different methods of giving advice and other approaches. In this role you will be:
- influencing farmers to change their practice, which may involve difficult conversations
- identifying and taking more innovative approaches to regulation
- carrying out targeted farm inspections and the associated report writing
- you will be required to attend incidents in-hours and can volunteer to have an out of hours incident role

The team
- You will be a member of one of the Environment Agency’s Area Land and Water teams, based at various locations in the East of England. You will be part of an operational team that is integral to delivering real environmental improvements. You will be working both outdoors and indoors and you will also respond to environmental emergencies and incidents.
- The Environment Agency works to create better places for people and wildlife and support sustainable development.

Experience/skills required
- The following skills are desirable:
- experience of working with farmers, on farms, the agriculture sector or other regulation
- an understanding of the complexities and challenges of working UK farms
- excellent communication and influencing skills
- an ability to have challenging conversations

You must have:
- a full UK driving licence
- IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel), be comfortable using an iPad and a laptop on a daily basis, and be able to input inspection findings into systems.
