Location: Southampton

As a Superintendent you will typically report to the Manager and work under their general supervision. On a large project there may be several Superintendents, each with their own area of the project to complete. The Superintendent exercises significant independent judgment and authority to ensure that all program expectations and policy/legal requirements are met.
You will need to have a strong character, know how to be fair but firm and you must not be afraid of confrontational situations. You will be expected to plan and carry out the work independently and be expected to resolve the most difficult and complex problems in accordance with instructions,
policies and accepted practice. Supervisors prioritise, assign, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the work of line staff, provide technical assistance, resolve minor work or personnel problems up to the level of verbal warnings and complete performance evaluations on employees. They then make recommendations to you, the Superintendent, regarding discipline, training,
major job reassignments and recruitment selection.
As Superintendent you will assign work to Supervisors, define clear objectives, priorities and deadlines and assist them with unusual situations or problems which do not
**Role of a Supervisor**
Supervisor Definition - those persons directly supervising work activities. They are the front line supervisors with direct responsibility for putting people to work and who will typically brief their workers on how to carry out their work and ensure that they are carrying out their work safely.
Supervisors play a key role in the health and safety of any contract.
- They develop, implement and monitor the Safe Systems of Work that we use.
- They are “hands on” with the safety and standards of workmanship in our workplaces.
- They are responsible for putting your people to work.
- They have responsibility to check that the workplaces in which you place your workforce are acceptable and safe.
- They have responsibility to check that adequate controls are in place to reduce risk.
- They must supervise your workforce.
- They must ensure they understand the essential safety requirements.
**Experience & Qualifications**
- Experience of work within the Process, Plant or Power Generation industries.
- In addition, Superintendents would require two to four years of direct experience supervising and / or managing operations and personnel.
