About the Lymphoedema service

The lymphoedema team are based at Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading and also see outpatients in Newbury and Wokingham. We are a small physio/nurse-led service and work very closely with other members of the hospice team. We support those who have Lymphoedema (swelling) as a result of cancer treatments and those who develop lymphoedema due to advancing cancer or other life-limiting conditions. We give expert advice and support to patients and families, showing them ways to look after themselves, as well as specialist treatments to help improve their symptoms and quality of life. We are a forward thinking and dynamic team who constantly look for better solutions for our patients. The work is very rewarding though can be challenging at times.

About the role

This is an exciting new role: You will be an integral member of our busy, motivated and creative team, supporting the specialist physiotherapists and nurses in all areas of the lymphoedema service.

The role is very varied and will involve helping to streamline the day to day running of the service including supporting staff with ordering specialist items, organising stock, answering calls from patients, and close liaison with the lymphoedema and the wider multi-disciplinary teams.

You will have the opportunity to develop the skills needed to assist staff with treatments, also to deliver less complicated treatments to patients unsupervised and offer telephone support and advice to patients. There will be a requirement to be able to administer physical treatments to patients and undertake manual handling.

Most of the training will be provided by the team but there may be the expectation to attend some external training courses

The post holder will be based at Duchess of Kent, but will be required at times to travel independently to see patients in their own homes, and on occasions might be asked to help out at the Wokingham or Newbury clinics. The post holder will need to have access to their own transport.

About you

We are looking for someone who has experience working in therapy or nursing assistant roles or other relevant experience.
