This post is part of our recent expansion of data journalism in Birmingham. The BBC News data journalism team, based in London and Birmingham, works on national and international stories. Data journalists also collaborate across BBC Story Teams, World Service and Sport.

Main Responsibilities
The BBC News data journalism team is looking for a creative data journalist who is expected to make a major contribution towards the publication of award-winning cross-platform data projects. The team works on both UK and international stories, and collaborates across story teams, the World Service and Sport.
- Strong experience in a specialist data journalism role
- Experience of generating ideas for original data stories and interactives that will work both in English and in translation for international audiences
- Demonstrable ability to advise non-specialists on how to understand and interpret data, frame or conduct surveys
- Experience of leading informal project teams, involving colleagues from product, design and development departments
- Technical ability to develop news stories and interactives using statistical tools or software, including proficiency in R and Python as well as mapping using GIS software
