Illumina is looking for a Staff Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team in Cambridge to deliver various aspects of complex bioinformatic analysis of our clinical sample processing pipelines, coordinate our participation in external quality assurance programs, inter-laboratory comparisons and develop standards for clinical NGS pipeline benchmarking.

This role is full time, hub and hybrid, requiring up to 2 days per week within the office in Cambridge.

Why You

As Staff Bioinformatics Scientist you will design, model, and develop data management systems that integrate laboratory, operation and research data.

You will be significantly contributing and leading the bioinformatics scientific input across multiple projects, driving to completion verification and validation activities in line with our Quality Management System whilst working closely with other teams, including Software, Operations, Development and external KOLs.

Scope of Responsibilities:

- Define and develop analytical validation approaches for use within an ISO 15189 medical testing laboratory.
- Coordinate participation of External Quality Assurance Schemes and inter-laboratory comparison activities.
- Lead and execute projects and cross-site collaborations in technical/product development and support other scientists within the organisation in validation activities.
- Work with large data sets from current and new platforms to solve complex problems of analytical, computational, or integration-related topics.
- Act as Subject Mater Expert under external assessment conditions.
- Mentor peers and supporting scientists, engineers on technical skills in area of expertise.

All listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities.

Preferred Educational Background:

- PhD or equivalent in or related field.

Preferred Experiential Background:

- Expert in cancer genetic analysis of clinical exome/whole genome data, variant analysis, association analysis, pedigree-based analysis, and quality control
- Expert knowledge of and proficiency with standard bioinformatics and analysis tools and packages such as FastQC, IGV, GATK and DRAGEN
- Experience with version control such as GitHub
- Possesses strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific ideas to clinical, scientific, and industry audiences
- Hold a strong record of successful delivery of complex scientific projects and publications
- Experience of working within an ISO 15189 laboratory environment.
- Superior communication skills.
