This apprenticeship opportunity is for those seeking to become a qualified Commercial Real Estate Chartered Surveyor. The work of Chartered Surveyors, in this discipline, covers all types of real estate used for business purposes.

The principal sectors within commercial real estate are retail, office, industrial and leisure. Commercial real estate serves a vast array of purposes supporting public and private sector business and services, such as government, service industries, education, healthcare, manufacturing, telecommunications and other civil infrastructure.

South Gloucestershire Council owns and manages a diverse portfolio of land with over 500 properties and assets ranging from office and commercial buildings to schools, hotels, farms, nature sites and more.

The portfolio also includes numerous commercial real estate properties and assets, such as offices, warehouses and light industrial, plus high footfall leisure and retail centres and the innovation and research focussed Bristol and Bath Science Park.

On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will gain a BSc (Hons) in Real Estate Management and, on passing the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), MRICS status.

This 5-year (56-month) journey incorporates a mix of technical and professional practice, interpersonal, business and management skills.

As our apprentice, you will make a difference by supporting with all manner of property, land and estate activities from site inspections and building visits to report writing and supporting providing recommendations to the executive board. You will support and be a key part of the Estates and Development Team at South Gloucestershire Council and will contribute to the effective and efficient management and development of the council’s diverse property portfolio.

During the apprenticeship, areas of study will include law, people and organisational management, digital technology, construction technology, development process and appraisal, planning, valuation, economics and portfolio management.

**What will you be doing?**

On a daily basis, you will be working alongside experienced staff in our Property Services team, working on interesting new projects and developments.

This is an exciting opportunity as the role will assist and support the team to deliver a wide range of services across our diverse portfolio of assets and projects. Projects and cases will include various estates and development management, land and asset management, landlord and tenant, licences, inspection and dealing with legal matters. You will be involved in meeting professionals, clients and customers and will be expected to undertake work on your own as well as work within a team environment. You will also have the chance to be involved in development, regeneration and place shaping opportunities.

Whilst supporting and contributing to the team, you will be exposed to an incredibly diverse array of property related disciplines and scenarios. A typical week will consist of visiting sites, meeting stakeholders, problem-solving and organising tasks.

There will be office-based working and collaboration with colleagues plus the option to work from home on tasks which will require you to be organised and focused.

**Things we need you to know**:
You will be expected to participate in the full 56-month Chartered Surveyor Degree apprenticeship.

The training provider will be The University College of Estate Management and you will be expected to attend the distance learning college one day per week during term time. The rest of the time you will be learning on the job with us Theory lessons will be reinforced in the workplace and you will have the opportunity to practice and enhance practical skills.

The salary for this apprenticeship is £28,371 - £31,099 (HAY 8)

This apprenticeship is a three-way partnership between South Gloucestershire Council, UCEM and yourself. The aim is to provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a successful Commercial real estate surveyor. You will spend 80% of your time working “on the job” and putting what you are learning into practice.

You will do this by:

- learning from your peers
- understanding industry processes
- interacting with clients
- interacting professionally

The remaining 20% of your time will be dedicated to studying off the job towards your apprenticeship.

Throughout your 56-month apprenticeship, we will allocate you a Line Manager and a workplace mentor to give you guidance and support throughout your programme. In addition, you will also have quarterly meetings with your apprenticeship outcomes officer who will support you to ensure you are on track and progressing through your programme effectively.
