The postholder will work as a key member of South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust Safeguarding Team and will be a part of a team of Safeguarding Specialists with a primary focus / core portfolio on safeguarding children and holding additional lead area(s) such as:

- Domestic abuse
- Child Exploitation

This post has a predominant role and focus for safeguarding children and young people but must be prepared at times to switch and cover, working flexibly and effectively across the whole safeguarding agenda to include safeguarding adults at risk.

Core responsibilities will include the provision of visible safeguarding leadership, supporting front line practitioners and safeguarding partners in the identification, management and care planning for children and young people where there are safeguarding concerns.

The postholder will be responsible for the provision of expert safeguarding advice and guidance on a daily basis to staff and managers where matters can be highly complex, and in difficult, sensitive and emotive situations. The postholder will the provide effective, evidence based safeguarding training that meets local and national requirements and safeguarding supervision on an individual and group basis.

The Specialist Safeguarding Practitioner will be a role model and leader by demonstrating effective and appropriate behaviours in both day to day safeguarding work and in difficult and distressing situations involving abuse and neglect, being flexible and demonstrating appropriate leadership styles and adapt in communication to match situation and audience.

- Being a role model of positive, inspirational and visible safeguarding leadership demonstrating the services values and adapting communication styles to match the situation and people
- Be responsible for setting and monitoring clear standards of competency to be achieved to ensure effective and safe care in relation to safeguarding
- Provide regular reports to Safeguarding Named Practitioners and support reporting to the Safeguarding Committee on safeguarding within your lead area/ specialism
- Deputise for Named Practitioners when required
- Specialist advice and support to staff and managers on legal matters related to safeguarding and liaise with lawyers; police; coroners where appropriate
- Ensuring safeguarding records of advice are maintained and provide regular reports highlighting trends and peaks in activity
