Clinical Lecturer in Medical Education

**Job Purpose**
To support the development, delivery and evaluation of a high-quality programme of assessments to provide students, studying within the Centre for Medical Education, with a world class medical education. It is envisaged that this role will be key in developing and quality assuring clinical assessments, ensuring that the School of Medicine is prepared for the CPSA element of the Medical Licensing Examination. To actively develop and undertake research-informed teaching (and activities relating to teaching), including the development, delivery and evaluation of the undergraduate Medical Degree Programme. To supervise and support undergraduate & postgraduate students and to carry out academic administrative duties within the programmes as required and to pursue excellence in research-informed teaching and assessment and inspiring and enabling others to do the same commensurate with the academic expectations associated with Lecturer.
**Teaching**
- To support the quality assurance of all in course assessments e.g. blue printing, question writing, training and recruitment of patients and examiners.
- To support in course and knowledge assessment activity - ensuring delivery of a research-informed assessment programme that adheres to current curricular requirements, developing and implementing innovative and appropriate assessment techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
- Identify and pro-actively lead opportunities for curriculum innovations and enhancements, including;
- o Implementing new units of teaching & learning and new programmes of study where appropriate.
- Developing the structure of existing modules and units of study within programmes and using evidence-based approaches to enhance the impact of teaching/pedagogical methods and innovations as appropriate.
- Supervise & facilitate the academic work of students including undergraduate Medical & BSc students.
- Provide pastoral care and academic support by acting as a Personal tutor for MBBCh
- Support the delivery of aspects of the MBBCh eg case based learning when appropriate
**Scholarship**
- Pro-actively undertake and lead appropriate educational research, pedagogical evaluation and scholarly activity, leading to publications in high quality professional and scholarly journals in line with lecturer level
- Participate in national (Lecturer) conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of one’s own scholarship
**Leadership**
- Contribute to the development and delivery of clinical assessments as lecturer
- Make best use of available technology ensuring compliance with the requirements of professional and statutory bodies
- Provide opportunities for staff development aimed at improving skills and knowledge in learning and teaching pedagogy, assessment and feedback

**Essential Criteria**
**Qualifications and Education**
1. MBBCh (or equivalent) and relevant professional experience, including relevant professional qualification(s) and a Postgraduate qualification in Education / Teaching or similar qualification (or relevant experience)
2. GMC registration or appropriate equivalent registration in their residence of practice
**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
3. Relevant teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level, demonstrating teaching innovation in course development and design
4. Experience of designing and delivering a range of different assessments at undergraduate/postgraduate level
5. Experience of using a variety of feedback strategies to improve student performance
6. A reputation for teaching excellence, educational innovation and learner empowerment/enablement, within the fields of science and medicine,

7. Excellent communication team working and IT skills, to include the ability to motivate, direct and enthuse colleagues; to present complex and conceptual topics clearly and confidently to others, using high level skills and a range of media
8. The ability to provide appropriate pastoral and academic support to students by appreciating the needs of individual learners and their circumstances
9. Proven ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation and team working within medical education

1. Subject specialist knowledge in curriculum design, delivery and assessment
2. Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the School
