ICJP conducts international, regional, and domestic legal work to protect Palestinian rights, as well as supporting and coordinating legal work with our partners in the UK, Palestine/Israel and worldwide.
**Job Purpose**
The Investigations Officer will be responsible for conducting investigations into alleged violations of international law and human rights in Palestine. This will involve gathering, analysing, and documenting evidence, including witness testimonies, open-source information, and other relevant materials. The role holder will work closely with the legal team to support the development of legal cases and advocacy initiatives.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Plan, design, and conduct investigations into alleged violations of international law and human rights.
- Identify, locate, and interview witnesses and victims, ensuring adherence to ethical and safety protocols.
- Collect, document, and preserve evidence, maintaining chain of custody where necessary.
- Analyse and synthesise information from various sources, including witness testimonies, documents, photographs, videos, and open-source materials.
- Prepare detailed and accurate investigation reports, chronologies, and other analytical documents.
- Collaborate closely with the legal team to identify potential legal avenues and support the development of legal strategies.
- Contribute to the development of evidence management systems and protocols.
- Assist in the identification of potential expert witnesses and the preparation of expert witness instructions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of international law, human rights law, and investigative best practices.
- Undertake travel to the region and other locations as required, adhering to security guidelines.
- Contribute to the organisation’s broader work through research and analysis as needed.
**Qualifications and Skills**
- A degree in law, international relations, human rights, journalism, or another relevant field.
- Proven experience in conducting investigations, preferably in human rights, criminal justice, or a related area.
- Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) level 2 qualification or equivalent is desirable
- Experience in interviewing vulnerable witnesses and adhering to ethical interviewing techniques.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to critically assess information from diverse sources.
- Experience in evidencing open-source information to British criminal evidence standard (or similar legal standard) is highly desirable.
- Qualifications or experience in Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques is desirable.
- Qualifications or experience in financial investigation is desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with international law and human rights law is highly desirable.
- Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of Arabic or Hebrew is desirable.
Pay: £28,000.00-£31,000.00 per year
