Support Worker

Job Purpose
To provide high-quality, person-centered support to adults with learning disabilities attending the day service. The Support Worker will promote independence, inclusion, and well-being, enabling each person to achieve their individual goals and participate fully in meaningful activities both within the service and in the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Person-Centered Support
- Support individuals to take part in daily activities, learning opportunities, and social experiences that reflect their interests, goals, and support plans.
- Promote independence, choice, and control in all aspects of daily life.
- Support individuals to develop communication, social, and life skills.
- Encourage participation in community activities, volunteering, and employment opportunities.
2. Health, Safety, and Well-being
- Support service users to maintain good physical and emotional health.
- Administer medication (if trained and authorized) and record accurately in line with policy.
- Report and record any concerns, incidents, or changes in a person’s health or behavior promptly.
- Ensure safe working practices and adhere to health and safety policies, risk assessments, and infection control procedures.
3. Record Keeping and Communication
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date support notes, records, and outcome monitoring in line with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
- Contribute to the development and review of individual support plans and risk assessments.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, and professionals to ensure continuity and quality of support.
4. Safeguarding and Professional Conduct
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of adults at risk in accordance with local safeguarding procedures.
- Recognise and report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the appropriate person.
- Work in line with the organisation’s policies, procedures, and CQC Fundamental Standards.
- Respect individual rights, dignity, and privacy at all times.
5. Teamwork and Service Development
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a positive, supportive team culture.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and supervision.
- Contribute ideas for improving activities, resources, and the overall quality of the service.
- Promote the organisation’s values of inclusion, empowerment, and respect.
Person Specification
Essential
- Genuine interest in supporting people with learning disabilities and promoting independence.
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to individual needs and preferences.
- Reliable and able to work as part of a team.
- Basic IT skills for recording and reporting purposes.
- Willingness to undertake training, including Care Certificate (if not already achieved).
Desirable
- Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs.
- Qualification in Health & Social Care (e.g. NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3).
- Understanding of person-centred planning, safeguarding, and positive behaviour support.
- Current driving licence and willingness to drive service vehicles (if applicable).

Pay: £24,420.00-£28,000.00 per year
