Shift Electrical Technician required for heavy process environment, paper recycling mill, based in north Birmingham, part of a global recycling / packaging company. 6 month fixed term contract, but with possibility of becoming permanent.
12 hour shifts - shift pattern - 2 mornings, 2 days off, 2 nights, 4 days off (with 3 x 18 days off per year)

An Electrical Engineer who is part of a maintenance team that works together with Production as a flexible, competent and multi-skilled unit.Using a hands-on approach to electrical breakdowns and preventative maintenance issues across the Mill site ina safe and competent manner.
- Relevant Electrical Qualifications
- Working in heavy industry understand 3 phase control systems
- Drives / Inverters
- PLC Fault finding and problem diagnosis (Not programming)
- Isolation Procedures (Elect and Mech)

The Shift Electrical Technician Role:

- Routine checks around the Mill and liaise with the Production Team Leaders and Operators and report back any problems or issues to your Team Leader.
- Overhaul and repair equipment and plant when practicable and cost effective to do so.
- Develop an understanding of the paper making process, its control systems, through experience and training and to use the knowledge to monitor the process.
- Ensure that all proposed work is accompanied by the relevant paperwork with the attached risk assessment completed and the relevant signatures in place.
- Maintenance on equipment during non-planned and planned maintenance shuts in a timely manner, and to communicate any problems or delays to your Team Leader immediately to avoid delaying the start-up of the paper machine.
- Undertake projects of improvement, extension or modification or equipment in order to optimise efficiency, reliability and safety.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest standards to avoid the loss of product quality and quantity.
- Communicate and assist other departments during the evaluation and rectification of breakdowns ensuring immediate rectification work is carried out.
- Ensure that the reports are completed and that they accurately reflect the conditions of the papermaking process and ancillary equipment.
- Ensure that all isolations and permits are carried out to the company’s policies and procedures.
- Actively involved with informative handovers with your colleagues to ensure issues are communicated and understood
- During maintenance breakdowns or stoppages, assisting maintenance and production personnel in working towards getting plant and machinery back into operation as quickly and safely as possible.
- Use your skills and knowledge to assist or lead, when required, your colleagues during operations, paper breaks and machine shuts to maximise process efficiencies and uptime.
- Cover breakdowns on a first response basis and callout appropriate assistance when required.
- Provide cover for fellow Shift Technician when required.
