**About the organisation**
Established in 2000, the organisation works to transform the lives of disabled children and their families, enabling them to challenge the barriers they face throughout childhood by providing practical and emotional support.
The organisation is going through an exciting period of national and international growth having recently opened a new state-of-the-art facility for multi-disciplinary therapy programmes for childhood disability and research of neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism, within the grounds of Keele University. It is a charity unlike any other with corporate aspirations investing all revenue back into its activities.
**Role summary**
As Chief Financial Officer you will manage the overall financial responsibilities of the organisation with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). You will oversee the preparation and compilation of all financial reports and statements, manage the Finance, HR, IT & Facilities departments, assist in strategies for internal growth, manage the company’s revenue effectively and watch over any future acquisitions or mergers.
This role will work closely with the CEO to create plans and opportunities that will help define the organisation’s future.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will be very much focused on maintaining the well-established controls already in place as well as creating new controls and procedures for the new services being planned. There will be a strong emphasis on increasing the business development of both the current and new services that are offered, whilst ensuring controls are in place for all expenditure and ensuring all income is maximised. Taking the lead on all Financial and commercial activities, you will be able to identify the organisation’s current value proposition and potential growth areas for the organisation to enter, contributing to improving the valuable work that is delivered for the most vulnerable people in society throughout the UK.
A corporate/commercial approach is a necessity in the customer-focused culture; ensuring all of stakeholders experience the best customer service and the desire to continue to support the charity long after any initial involvement.
An astute monitoring of income streams will be required to deliver a minimum ROI of at least 3:1 across the portfolio.
**Duties and responsibilities**
**Financial Control**
- Overseeing departments involved in the General Ledger, Banking, Debt Management and Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Review and sign off all supplier payments
- Providing leadership and guidance to the finance team
- Providing financial expertise and recommendations to the CEO and members of the executive team
- Assisting in the processes of financial forecasts and preparation of budgets
- Assisting the executive team on Short, Medium and Long-term financial and business planning
- Establishing and maintaining good relationships with external partners, stakeholders and investors
- Tracking cash flow and analysing the company’s financial weaknesses and strength, whilst proposing corrective actions
- Prepare monthly management accounts and present to CEO
- Prepare annual statutory accounts for filing with HMRC
- Main point of contact with external auditors
- Carry out secretarial duties with annual HMRC & Charity Commission returns
- Report monthly on progress and forecasting against targets for all charity income streams at Board level.
- Prepare Trustee Board Slides
- Update charity Chairman / Secretary on the charities financial performance and condition
**Human Resources**
- Oversee the HR department.
- Sign off of all new recruitment
- Involvement in any escalated HR matters
- Review and sign off Payroll
**Information Technology**
- Oversee the IT department.
- Budget, Plan and Sign off of all IT Capex and overhead costs
- Involvement in any IT planning and systems development
- Renewal of Mobile Contracts
- Assist the Data Protection Officer, ensuring they get the support required at board and lower levels
**Facilities**
- Oversee the Facilities department
- Ensuring all maintenance contracts are in place and being fulfilled.
- Sign off of all maintenance expenditure
- Understand building FM procedures and act as cover with FM on hols.
