**The Post**
To work with the current Practice Learning Director to manage and develop practice learning for the BA (Hons) in Social Work and the MSc in Social Work Studies. The post-holder will also contribute to the MSc. in Applied Professional Studies (Social Work Practice Education) and other undergraduate and post-graduate modules on the social work qualifying programmes.
**Description of Duties**
- Work in partnership with placement providers to deliver high quality practice learning opportunities for student social workers
- Develop new practice learning opportunities
- Undertake placement matching with students, agencies and social work practice educators
- Oversee and improve the quality of placements. This includes chairing practice learning review meetings, overseeing professional practice progress boards and evaluation of placements
- Contribute to the enhancement of teaching for social work students, and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the HE sector, in particular preparation for practice learning and student recall days
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of effective approaches to teaching and learning support as key contributions to high quality student learning
- Contribute to continuous improvement of qualifying and post-qualifying provision for the Scottish social services
- Contribute to enhancement of the student experience and their readiness to practice in line with the requirements of the Scottish Social Services Council
- Engage in individual and collaborative pedagogical and scholarly activity, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, and disseminate results through regular publication in a manner appropriate to the work
- Independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, contribute to bids for external funding/income for scholarship activities
- Participate in the Faculty’s international engagement activities as required e.g., delivering teaching, contributing to joint programmes and recruitment of students
- Participate in, and develop, networks and collaborations both internally and externally to the Division/Faculty/University
- Participate in the administrative processes of the Division/Faculty/University including committee membership, quality assurance procedures and recruitment and admission of students
- Evaluate own practice and approaches to teaching, continue to maintain professional practice links and undertake continuous professional development appropriate to the role
- Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post
**Essential Criteria**
**Qualifications**:
- Social work qualification
- Post-qualifying certificate in social work practice education/practice learning
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Professional practice experience of working with social work students in the role of Practice Educator
- Experience of delivering teaching or training in a university-based or social work/social care agency setting
- Experience or knowledge to design, deliver, assess and evaluate modules in social work education or agency-based training as part continuing professional development
- Knowledge of contemporary issues around social work practice learning as currently delivered in Scotland
- Demonstrate an understanding or experience of developing effective approaches to adult teaching and learning, support and guidance
- Clear plans for scholarship activities to enhance teaching and knowledge exchange around social work practice learning
**Desirable Criteria**
- PhD in relevant discipline or equivalent professional and/or teaching experience
- Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent e.g. Learning and Development qualification; PGCert and/or holding or working towards Associate Fellow/Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)
- Evidence, knowledge or interest of international collaboration
- Evidence of developing a high-quality publication record or preparing profession specific reports
- Evidence of developing teaching, scholarship or similar proposals to bid for external funding; this could include developing plans to improve service delivery in a health and social care setting
- Evidence of a basic knowledge of the Higher Education context and regulatory framework
- Credible plan for the active pursuit of external funding for pedagogic research to enhance the learning experience post qualifying students and scholarship activities promoting collaboration across health and social care services
