- The rail industry is benefitting from the largest investment programme since the Victorian era to maintain, renew and upgrade the conventional rail network and build a brand-new high-speed railway. To deliver this investment efficiently and effectively, we need a strong UK supply chain that is innovative, productive, competitive and can adapt quickly to changing customer needs and technology.
- During this significant time for the industry, you will play a leading role in the Department’s work to strengthen and champion the UK’s rail supply chain. You will build and develop positive relationships with colleagues across DfT, other government departments including BEIS, senior stakeholders in the rail sector and the Great British Railways Transition Team.
- This is a varied and rewarding role that requires excellent stakeholder engagement skills and confidence leading a team. Alongside processing detailed information and the ability to communicate this in a clear and concise manner whilst representing the team at site visits to rail supply chain companies and rail industry events and conferences.**Responsibilities**:

- Your key responsibilities will include:_
- Leading Government’s engagement with the rail supply industry to improve its capability and its investment in the people, skills and technology required to deliver Government’s investment priorities
- Developing an in-depth knowledge of the issues for and impacts on the UK’s rail supply chains through direct industry engagement and wider research into the sector and related global factors
- Identifying opportunities to improve the capability of the rail supply industry through effective government interventions
- Providing accurate and concise written or verbal briefing to senior colleagues and Ministers for meetings and events

This role is available to individuals who wish to be spending their office time in London, Leeds or Birmingham, alongside occasionally attending major industry events.**About You**

Through strategic thinking and thought-leadership, you will be able to identify core underlying challenges and use your initiative to take ownership, identify priorities and provide solutions, whilst continuously being aware of external factors which may impact the rail supply chain.
- You will provide direction to your team and encourage a strong team spirit, whilst displaying the role model behaviours of taking ownership, continuously improving, innovating and being creative.
- You will utilise your communication skills to develop effective working relationships with senior industry leaders and across Government to represent the department’s position with authority and credibility. Using your influence, you will bring together your team and stakeholders to ensure that the rail supply chain is properly factored into the plans for rail reform.**Behaviours**:
