**Overview**

**Sanctus Charity runs a Cafe/Day Centre and Support Hub for the homeless and vulnerable community of Chelmsford and surrounding areas. We are a local, friendly charity supporting those in need in times of crisis and and beyond.**

**The Cafe Assistant role requires an individual who is open minded, understanding and is comfortable assisting and serving some of the most marginalised members of our society. We provide a safe and comfortable space for those aged 18 and over with no referral process. You must be aligned with our aims of supporting those in need, be non-judgemental and capable of effectively communicating with a wide range of people despite their background, age or circumstance.**

The primary responsibility of the Cafe Assistant role is to ensure the successful and safe day to day operation of our café as part of the overall Sanctus service.

Daily tasks include;
Setting up the Cafe

Filling up our food pantry/setting up our cakes and pastries table/filling tea urns and cold drink dispensers/refilling cereal dispensers

Registering our service users as they enter

Giving out food pantry items

Serving the lunch time meal to our service users

Registering service users support needs/appts with our Hub team

Being a friendly and approachable face of Sanctus Charity

Some light washing up

Cleaning duties throughout the day and at closing time

Handing out care of mail to our service users

Ensuring new service users complete a registration form

Liaising with our Support Hub when a new rough sleeper presents to us, to ensure they receive prompt assistance

Be a friendly face for our vulnerable community

Assist the rest of the team in keeping our cafe environment a safe and calm place to be

Some lifting involved (when supplies are delivered)

**Hours/Days**

We are looking to employ someone who can work 12 hours across the week (likely to be 2 x 6 hour shifts). One of these days will be a Saturday between approximately 9-3 and one day in the week which is negotiable and will be approximately 9.30-3.30.

£12 per hour

We have a friendly team of staff and volunteers across the charity who are incredibly helpful and welcoming

It is advised that we do have service users accessing Sanctus who are in active addiction and recovery. We do not tolerate drink or drugs on the premises and if service users are deemed to be heavily under the influence we will provide them with supplies and ask them to return the next day.

It is an incredibly rewarding place to work for the right person.

Experience of working with homeless/vulnerable or those in addiction would be preferable. It is more important that we find a Cafe Assistant who is confident around people with a wide range of needs than someone who only has a hospitality background.
