The Advanced Care Research Centre (ACRC) was established in 2020 as a programme led by University of Edinburgh to research and develop innovative solutions for the care of people in later life, contributing to tackling the global challenge of promoting and maintaining ‘healthy ageing’. Central to the ACRC approach is a commitment to working in partnership with people in later life, their families and communities, and to creating a sustainable UK wide collaboration to ensure excellence and impact. Building on world-leading, multidisciplinary research expertise and infrastructure, we will develop world class data, technology, and social assets that deliver impact through research and development. This will drive innovation of new data-centric products, services, models of care, and system innovations that will engender a step-change improvement in the quality of life of our citizens and sustain their independence and dignity in later life.
The programme was awarded £20M to deliver a research centre taking a multi-disciplinary approach to end of life care. The ACRC is led by Professor Bruce Guthrie and will based in and co-ordinated from the Usher Institute at the University of Edinburgh. The ACRC programme spans several other Schools across all three of the University of Edinburgh’s Colleges.
ECA is a diverse College with approx. 250 academic colleagues within the College of Humanities and Social Science. Comprising of 5 Schools (Art, Design, ESALA, History of Art and Music), split across 5 sites, with a wide-range of backgrounds in arts practice and theory, and research practice.
Following the publication of the Finch report in 2012, the Research Councils UK (RCUK) published their response. This requires the University to deliver high levels of Open Access research outputs. Many more papers will need to be archived in the institutional repository systems. This role will be part of a programme of work across the university to deliver these requirements and to ensure and provide evidence that the university is compliant in this area. It will also assist academic staff to be compliant with the HEFCE Post-2014 REF policies on Open Access, Impact and other areas of research information management.
ECA’s REF2021 submission saw 174 academic staff members returned in three Units of Assessment with a combined total of 366 research outputs and 16 impact case studies.
