**The role**

Port Operative role will be primarily working as part of the stevedoring team.

Due to the nature of port work, the role is for those aged 18+.

**Primary role**
- General Stevedoring such as working in ships hold or on the quay to discharge or load ships
- Tug and shunter driving
- Operate forklift trucks including various attachments; paper clamps, bale clamps, poles/booms
- Operate overhead gantry cranes within the steel terminals
- Move cargo around the Port and within warehouses
- Operate the scanner phones and the relevant software
- Always work in a safe and efficient manner
- Clean & tidy up around the site
- Perform pre-use checks before using any plant and equipment and report any defects using the defect reporting system
- Display a duty of care towards plant, equipment and others at all times

**Accountabilities**
- Participate in any training deemed necessary in order to improve individual skills
- Subject to suitable training for operating plant & equipment (including pre-use checks)
- Effectively promote a health, safety, and environment culture
- Carry out work according to the risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Cleaning of equipment and site as required and assisting in various other port duties
- Active approach in identifying improvements and opportunities

**Requirements**:

- Must be 18+ to work on a Port
- Proactive attitude to Health & Safety
- Good ability to navigate IT equipment e.g. smartphone & computer
- Physically fit and able in order to access ships & plant/equipment
- Completion of an IOSH working safely

**Desirable (not essential)**
- Full UK driving licence (car) licence
- Plant and equipment licenses and experience
- Experience of working in a port or a logistics / warehouse environment

**Working hours**
- Minimum of 40 hours per week
- Standard working hours 0700-1600 (generally a 1hr lunch break)
- Please note these hours may vary depending on requirements

**Benefits**
- £12.21 to £13.12 (Tier 1 / 2 / 3) per hour depending on skills and experience
- Annual pay review and potential for progression through our skills & competencies tier system
- Overtime at an enhanced rate after 40 hours or at weekends/bank holidays
- Discretionary annual bonus

**Additional information**

Please note that random screening is undertaken for substance abuse and a zero-tolerance policy is operated. A pre-employment medical may be required after acceptance of job offer due to the physical nature of the role.
