**Job introduction**:
Brighton & Hove City Council is looking for two Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Workers to join a new service within our 0-24 Specialist Community Disability Service (working with school age children) and this is an exciting opportunity to be part of it.

Working alongside the already established Transforming Care Autism and Learning Disability Keyworker service, PBS Support Workers will offer short-term planned interventions to complete an agreed piece of work, to families of children with identified additional needs.

PBS Support Workers will provide support for families of children and young people with identified additional needs (but not necessarily formally diagnosed) to avoid placement and family breakdown and to empower families and professionals to understand and meet the needs of children with behaviours that challenge.

If you are interested in this opportunity, and you have the skills to support this new service we'd like to hear from you.

The PBS Support Workers will undertake a specific piece of work with families, within an agreed timescale (10-12 weeks), Workers will observe the child in multiple settings to gain an understanding of the function of the behaviors that challenge, and devise a support plan for the family and services to appropriately meet their needs.

The team will sit within the 0-24 Specialist Community Disability Service (SCDS) but will work closely with teams across education, health, social care and within the community.

**Fixed term for**: 12 months

If you would like to find out further information about the service please contact

**About the role**:
Working directly with children, young people with identified additional needs and their families, you will support the development of person-centred plans to help to prevent family or placement breakdown. You will develop good relationships with the young people and their families to understand the needs being expressed through behaviours that challenge.

PBS Support Workers will be required to work in collaboration with other professionals to ensure that the children and young people on their caseload’s needs are understood and met by the professional network around them.

You will provide short-term support over one day a week for a 10-12 week period. In this time you will have observed the child in multiple settings, gather information from parents and parent carers, professionals in the network and will have gained a well-rounded understanding of the child or young person’s needs. This understanding will be the basis for a support plan. You will have support from a qualified PBS practitioner to devise a support plan to meet the needs of the child or young person.

You will create a support plan and distribute it to the network, including recommendations for further support from services available in the city.

This is a unique role that allows you to work creatively and with an emphasis on person-centred approaches to work in collaboration with young people and their families to build on strengths and achieve positive outcomes.

**Additional information**:
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

**Company information**:
As part of Brighton & Hove City Council's ongoing commitment to redeployment, please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any stage of the recruitment process, without prior notice if a suitable redeployee (internal employee at risk of redundancy) is identified.
