Middleton, United Kingdom Derbyshire Wildlife Trust Full time

If you have always been looking for an opportunity to play a role in outdoor nature conservation but wondered how and if the right opportunity would come along, then this traineeship may be for you. We have four, 30-hour, funded traineeships available. The Practical Conservation Traineeship offers a unique and exciting opportunity to undertake paid, work-based training in varied green and blue spaces across the county working alongside our team and our volunteers, to develop hands-on practical experience and vital professional skills. Trainees will also gain a City and Guild Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Environmental Conservation to help you take the first steps in developing a career in practical environmental conservation. You don’t need to have lots of conservation experience, but you do need a love of the outdoors and a willingness to learn new skills. Everything you do will involve managing habitats for wildlife. One day you might be clearing scrub and the next constructing fences and footpaths. The work is predominantly outdoors in all weathers, so a willingness to work in all weathers is a must **What will you gain**: - A City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Environmental Conservation to support you in starting and developing a career in practical environmental conservation. - Other accredited training such as outdoor first aid. - Opportunity to do a work placement with another conservation-based organisation. **About you** This role might be right for you if: - you have a willingness to learn new skills. - you have a passion and interest in working outdoors. - you have a commitment to developing your knowledge and understanding of wildlife conservation issues and the natural environment through a qualification and work-based learning. - you have a friendly and supportive approach. **What our previous trainees, interns and placements have to say about gaining experience with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust** “Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and think that it has really helped me with gaining valuable experience in the industry that I am looking for a career in.” “I feel like schools, colleges, even some adults give the perception that work is scary and strict and unbearable and that was absolutely not the case with DWT. If anything, it made me look forward to future jobs” “It was a good traineeship, I felt just as valued as every other member of staff, everyone was lovely which really helped my anxiety, there were ample opportunities to learn and grow and I love how personal development was a priority within the Trust for all staff.” "Some of the things I have been up to are: learning tree and wildflower ID skills, taming sheep, assisting with cattle TB testing and the badger vaccination, driving the pickup truck, visitor risk assessments, fixing fences, building drystone walls, QGIS training (mapping), volunteer work parties, installing waymarkers, building steps, forest school, outdoor first aidthe list really does go on."
