A relief part time (30 hours per week) switchboard operator post is available on a permanent basis at Band 3 salary, to provide cover to rostered staff.

The main duties involve answering calls made to the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust via the Royal Oldham Hospital switchboard and passing such calls on to the relevant staff within the trust.

The duties will also involve dealing with emergency bleep requests, alarms and general verbal communications.

Oldham Care Organisation is part of the Northern Care Alliance, one of the largest NHS organisations in the country. The place where the world’s first IVF baby was delivered, Oldham is a town of pioneering firsts. Today, Oldham is responsible for delivering a range of acute and community health services across the local area and at The Royal Oldham Hospital. As a designated major trauma unit for Greater Manchester and one of only three vascular centres in Greater Manchester, Oldham is a specialist hospital for acute surgery and provides state-of-the-art onsite pathology services to the North West.
- To answer all incoming calls promptly, within a set maximum target time and connect the caller with the correct recipient or department required.
- To fully understand and be able to utilise all extensions and switchboard features in the efficient handling of calls and callers.
- To contact via the ‘bleep’ system members of staff who possess receivers and radio pagers.
- To ensure that the appropriate members of staff and authorities are contacted in the case of fire, security alarms and major incidents, including remote site support.
- To take action to alert emergency teams or personnel for cardiac arrest and medical emergencies
- To operate VDU consoles, incorporating and extensive internal and external directory, in order to manage calls.
- To operate other computer programmes, bleep consoles [LCUs] and be able to generate reports from bleep management out of hours.
