Activity Support Worker

**A. Supporting the service user’s**:
1. Responsible for providing stimulation and encouragement to service users through entertainment and activities.
2. To develop knowledge of a range of learning support needs relevant to Willow Park Lifeskills Centre.
3. To develop an understanding of the specific needs of service users we support.
4. To motivate and encourage the service users to get involved in a variety of tasks included in each workshop. To guide the service users to learn new skills and to overcome obstacles.
5. Provide positive reinforcements, praise and rewards.
6. Provide support and facilitate interaction with peers in workshops and around the Centre.
7. To work as part of a team to ensure the wellbeing and personal development of the service users, enhancing their learning opportunities and life skills.
8. To aid the service users to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and individually, inside and outside of the workshops:
10. DRIVER ESSENTIAL : Will pick up and drop off service users
**For Example**:
- Clarifying and explaining instructions
- Ensuring the service user is able to use necessary equipment within the workshop adapting where needed.
- Motivating and encouraging the service user
- Assisting in areas of specific weakness
- Attending to service users personal and health needs
- Developing appropriate resources to support the service user
- Assisting in the management of the service user’s social interactions and behaviour
- Assisting service users to swim - to include you entering the water
1. To establish a supportive relationship with the service user concerned.
2. To establish acceptance and inclusion of the service users in all workshops
3. To manage the service users as advised by the seniors and/or management team.
4. To use methods of promoting and reinforcing the service user’s self-esteem.
5. To ensure the safety of the service users at all times.
6. To carry out any specific duties as outlined in the service user’s individual ‘Outcome Progression Plan.’
**B. Supporting the Workshop Facilitators and other colleagues**:
1. To assist the workshop facilitator to develop a suitable programme of support and then carry out the programme within the workshop.
2. To maintain the recording and monitoring of the service users progress at each workshop.
3. To provide feedback about any difficulties and/or progress of their service user to the workshop facilitators, senior, and management.
4. To help adapt/find differentiated materials to enable the service user to access the workshop.
5. To report any problems about arrangements or any incidents to the senior and management.
6. To understand the importance of documentation and uphold this understanding during your day-to-day working, examples such as daily notes and incidents reports.
7. Support colleagues with manual handling and personal care.
8. Respond promptly to radio requests for assistance (where possible).
**C. ** **Supporting Willow Park Resource Centre.**
1. To liaise, advise and consult with the senior, management and other staff where necessary.
2. To be aware of and follow all Willow Park Resource Centre’s policies and procedures - taking responsibility to ensure these have been read and understood.
3. To maintain confidentiality regarding service users, staff, seniors, management and any other matters
4. To complete any other task as directed by workshop facilitators, senior and management.
5. Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to around the centre to make for a safe environment - anything untoward is to be passed to the co-ordinator to be dealt with immediately.
6. To ensure you have your uniform and swimwear every day.
**Essential Characteristics**:
- The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
- Understand the necessity for confidentiality
- Understand the role of teamwork in providing a quality service
- Motivated and enthusiastic to work within the Health and Social Care sector
- Availability to provide cover during periods of holiday or sickness
- Understanding of own behaviour and how this impacts on colleagues, clients and visitors
- It is the personal responsibility of all staff to act in accordance with the Care Standards Act 2000 and Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA)
- To represent the company in a professional manner at all times in and outside of working hours
**Personal Development**:
- To discuss one’s own developments needs with Management in order to consistently achieve the best practice and continuously improve personal performance.
- To attend relevant training courses as agreed by the Management and in accordance with one’s own personal development plan.
- Develop one’s own practice by meeting targets agreed with the Management and within the desired timeframe - to be discussed in 3 monthly supervisions.
- Participate in team meetings and initiatives, providing the necessary contribution
